SOBRIYAH is an Oyster 485 built in 1996.
One of the last of the Holman and Pye designs upon which Oyster’s reputation for building bullet proof boats was founded. The 485 is considered by many to be one of Kim Holmans’ finest designs and her sleek lines still turn heads. Sobriyah is the 23rd of 36 built between 1992 and 2002.
Only two owners from new and always meticulously maintained. Continuously upgraded and substantially refitted in 2012 for a planned circumnavigation. Only lightly sailed since.
With the 3 cabin 2 head interior layout. Teak interior joinery in the still current shadow line design, and cool beige Alcantara upholstery.
Re-rigged in 2012 with a new Selden electric in-mast furling rig and additional electric winches for else of sail handing. Grinding winches is a thing of the past when sailing this yacht. Fitted with a removable cutter stay and running backstays she offers her skipper many options when sailing offshore with a comprehensive wardrobe of downwind and heavy weather sails included in the inventory.
The heavy displacement hand laid solid GRP hull and deep bulb lead keel provide for a comfortable offshore passage maker; she has never felt over pressed in rough conditions. Also capable of showing a clean pair of heels when asked. Overall winner of the Antigua Oyster regatta in 2007, and a close second in 2009 despite some ‘adjustments’ by the handicapper.
The original Perkins 4.236 82 hp engine has only done 3,000 hours from new, just nicely run-in. The boat is also fitted with a generator, watermaker, and bowthruster.
The most recent refit has included refurbishment of the teak deck which is in excellent condition for the age of the boat and will last for many more years, replacement of the cabin sole, hatches, portlights, sea cocks, rudder bearing and seals, cutlass bearing, a full engine and gearbox overhaul, new refrigeration, stove, electronics, sails, canvas, upholstery, and much more…
